Yukon stems from the Gwich'in word "Yu-kun-has" which translates to "great river", and First Nations traditional territories cover almost all the land in Yukon. Bordering Alaska, it is the countries north western corner and one of Canada's 3 territories and home to the highest mountain in Canada (Mount Logan), some of the world's largest ice fields and the world's smallest desert. Yukon has a small population, but had its claim to fame when gold was discovered in the 1890s. A visit to the cities of Dawson or Whitehorse will feel like a step back in time to the great Klondike Gold Rush. Yukon still has active gold mining, and unspoiled wilderness supports their tourism, TV and film industries. To develop a thriving and prosperous home for Canadians Yukon is prioritizing sustainable job creation, innovation, investment opportunities and market expansion.

The Yukon Nominee Program (YNP) is primarily available for employers who are looking to hire foreign workers for full-time, permanent positions. Both the employer and the foreign worker will need to apply to the YNP. The employers application will be reviewed first, and if approved the foreign national information is reviewed. If approved, the nominee can send an application for a temporary work permit allowing them to work while the application for permanent residency is processed. In addition to the below categories, employers can apply to YNP to hire a candidate in the federal express entry pool through the Yukon Express Entry category.
